Who can attend?
The Grief & Growing weekend is for adults, children, teens, extended
families, and friends who are experiencing grief from recent or past losses
of people in their life.

What are the
camp program dates and times?
Friday, August 26th to Sunday, August 28th. The Grief and Growing weekend
will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday and end at 1 PM on Sunday. You are welcome
to arrive anytime after 3:00 PM. If possible, we recommend taking off
the Monday after Camp to give yourself time to ease back into your routine.

What is the cost
of Camp?
The cost of camp is as follows:
Adults: $350
Children under 3: $150

What is grief programming?
Environment supportive of grief experiences, including professionally facilitated workshops, healing services and the healing power of music and nature.

What activities
are available at Camp?
Grief and Growing Weekend provides a safe and supportive
environment where individuals and families can meet others who have experienced
similar losses. Camp offers opportunities to connect with others, using
play, creative projects, rituals, song, discussion groups, and the healing
power of nature.

How many participants
will there be?
We generally have between 40 and 60 camp participants each year at Camp.

What is the ratio of campers to staff?
The ratio of camp staff to camp participants is usually 1:2 to 1:3. Staff is always available to discuss issues that arise over the course of the weekend.

What do we bring to Camp?
A packing list is included with the camper application and also with the camper acceptance packet mailing. If you cannot acquire the items on the list, please let us know and we may be able to assist you.

Can I use
a cell phone, access the internet, and receive faxes at camp?
While there is limited cell phone access at Camp Newman, we ask that you
turn off your electronic devices for the duration of the weekend. We hope
that everyone will leave behind the routine of daily life and connect
with others and the healing power of nature.

Is smoking allowed at Camp?
Yes, but ONLY in designated areas. The area that surrounds us is at extreme
fire danger, so there is no smoking allowed anywhere in camp except the
“Smoker’s Pit”.

What
are the qualifications of the counselors?
The Grief & Growing weekend is professionally guided by griefcare
specialists. Staff includes clinical specialists, camp counselors, medical
personnel, massage therapists, workshop leaders, and camp specialists
in art and other camp activities. Even the kitchen staff is sensitized
to the weekend’s purpose. Most of the staff have been with us for
a number of years.

Registration
Is any financial
assistance available?
Yes, we have financial options to provide assistance to those campers
needing it. Our goal is to not let a lack of money keep someone who is

Can I get a
refund if I need to cancel after I have registered?
A full refund will be granted if Bay Area Jewish Healing Center is contacted
before August 12, 2010 by 5:00pm. No refunds will be granted for cancellations

Transportation
Is
there transportation assistance to get to camp?
Yes. We attempt to match up participants to carpool to Camp. Please include
your transportation requirements on your Family Information Form

Accommodations
What are the overnight accommodations for campers?
Housing at camp is basic. There are wooden cabins, with bunk beds. All
the cabins have electricity and plumbing. Although cabins are insulated,
it will still be cold at night.

Can I choose
to sleep with my family members?
Children over eight generally bunk with other kids their age and camp
staff. Please let us know if your child would rather sleep with you. Our
camp staff watch the children (all ages) in the evenings so you can participate
in adult activities.

Anyone requiring special accommodations, equipment, or staffing must notify the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center, and send complete information with your Family Information Form so that we can best accommodate the situation.

Dining
What kinds of
meal services are offered at camp?
Food at Camp Newman is served “Kosher Style”. We do not have
a kosher kitchen. We can provide a vegetarian or vegan meal if requested.

Health Care
What about
health care?
There is a nurse on hand at Camp. It is critical to list any allergies
(including to medicines), current medications taken, recent injuries,
illnesses or anything else our medical staff should know on your
Family Information Form.
