Tzedakah can be offered in many forms. The root of the word, tzedek, means righteousness. It comes from the Bible where we read that Noah is a righteous man; ish tzadik. And so tzedakah is a righteous act in which one offers oneself for the overall good of the community. Every act of righteousness a person offers elevates the dignity of both the giver and the receiver.
